"With the release of VMware vSphere 5, VMware is helping customers accelerate their journey toward a more efficient and automated cloud infrastructure," said Bogomil Balkansky, senior vice president, cloud infrastructure products, VMware. "The enhancements and new innovations we've introduced in VMware vSphere 5 provide a robust, reliable platform for business applications, enabling customers to effectively respond to the growing needs of their business and giving them confidence in their IT transformation."

The foundation of VMware's cloud infrastructure suite, VMware vSphere 5, includes new features and enhancements to deliver better application performance and availability for all business-critical applications. Cisco and VMware to Deliver Integrated Virtual Desktop Solution

Cisco and VMware this week announced a desktop virtualization solution based on the Cisco Unified Computing System (UCS) and VMware View 4.5. The solution is aimed at helping customers deploy virtual desktop solutions that scale to meet business needs and regulatory requirements while reducing risk and total cost of ownership.

The Cisco Desktop Virtualization Solution with VMware View will simplify the physical and virtual infrastructure and management associated with desktop deployments with a foundation optimized for performance and availability. The solution will provide consistent security policy implementation and administration through UCS Manager and VMware View integration, enabling the deployment of virtual desktops to users in minutes. The goal is to deliver consistent access to the desktop environment across locations and devices, with exceptional application responsiveness and graphics performance. With fewer components to purchase and manage, the solution offers lower cost per seat and reduced storage costs.

Two new Cisco Validated Designs (CVDs) based on Cisco UCS and VMware View 4.5 will help customers mitigate some of the risks to successful virtual desktop implementations, and will be pre-tested to help customers and channel partners accelerate the deployment of the combined solution. The new Cisco Validated Designs are scheduled to be available in December.

"This solution builds on Cisco's relationship with VMware in accelerating the adoption of our virtualization solutions. By combining our innovation in unified computing with VMware View™ desktop virtualization we are helping our customers quickly benefit from the operational savings of desktop virtualization," said Soni Jiandani, vice president, Server, Access and Virtualization Technology Group, Cisco.

"VMware is committed to providing customers with secure, scalable and high-performance virtual desktop solutions that deliver the best user experience while lowering costs and management overhead.", said Chris Young, Vice President and General Manager, End User Computing for VMware. "We're excited to work with Cisco on new channel initiatives to provide partners the support they need to help get these solutions into customers' hands faster."

Along with the announcement, Cisco and VMware have also introduced new channel initiatives designed to help partners accelerate virtual desktop deployments for customers.

New Veeam Backup & Replication™ V5 Encourages Organizations to Virtualize Enterprise Applications on VMware vSphere™

Veeam Software, innovative provider of VMware data protection, disaster recovery and VMware management solutions for virtual datacenter environments, today released Veeam Backup & Replication 5.0, whose added functionality gives organizations compelling reasons to virtualize their critical enterprise applications, such as CRM, ERP and email systems.

Version 5.0 provides 2-in-1 backup and replication for virtual machines (VMs) running on VMware ESX(i) and performs functions not possible with traditional physical backup solutions or other virtual backup tools. With patent-pending technology, Veeam Backup & Replication 5.0 can run a VM in production or in an isolated virtual lab directly from a compressed and deduplicated backup file on regular backup storage. As a result, it’s now possible to instantly recover a VM directly from a backup, restore individual objects (email messages, database records, etc.) from any virtualized application, and automatically verify the recoverability of every backup without additional hardware or staff. This technology also enables organizations to gain additional value from their investments in backup storage by using backups to create an “on-demand sandbox” for troubleshooting, testing and development/QA.

“By virtualizing enterprise applications on VMware vSphere™ and using Veeam Backup & Replication v5, organizations can overcome the limitations of traditional backup and gain fast, flexible and reliable recovery of critical applications,” explained Ratmir Timashev, Veeam President and CEO. “This includes databases such as Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server and email systems such as Microsoft Exchange. VMware Expands Enterprise Class Automated Disaster Recovery

VMware, Inc. (NYSE: VMW) today announced the availability of VMware vCenter Site Recovery Manager 4, enabling automated, reliable and affordable disaster recovery. VMware vCenter Site Recovery Manager provides automated disaster recovery for virtual environments. Now, with added support for Network File System (NFS) based storage replication, compatibility with VMware vSphere™ 4, and simplified “many-to-one” failover using shared recovery sites, VMware vCenter Site Recovery Manager makes it even easier for customers to confidently protect all of their virtual environments.

Disaster recovery is critical for companies to protect corporate data, but has typically been difficult to achieve due to costs and complexity. Disasters in the datacenter–whether they are caused by hurricanes, earthquakes, power outages, or other unexpected events–can result in downtime for business critical applications. Extended downtime significantly impacts revenues, service level agreements (SLAs) and business operations. Traditional solutions for disaster recovery require complex, manual recovery processes, and can be very difficult to set up, test and keep up-to-date. Regulatory requirements can also present challenges to disaster recovery solutions. As a result, organizations only provide disaster recovery plans for the most critical applications.

VMware vCenter Site Recovery Manager addresses these challenges by centralizing management of recovery plans and automating the testing and recovery process, resulting in rapid, reliable, affordable disaster recovery. VMware vCenter Site Recovery Manager, originally released in 2008, has become the defacto standard for automating disaster recovery, with more than 2,000 customers and support from 12 leading storage vendors. VMware Delivers VMware vSphere™ 4

VMware, Inc. (NYSE: VMW), the global leader in virtualization solutions from the desktop through the data center and to the cloud, today announced the general availability of VMware vSphere™ 4, delivered ahead of schedule and with the support of an extensive partner ecosystem and customers around the globe.

“With VMware vSphere 4, we are once again raising the bar significantly for businesses that desire to dramatically improve IT performance,” said Raghu Raghuram, vice president and general manager, server business unit, VMware. “The cost savings associated with virtualization are undeniable, and as more customers standardize on VMware to drive 100 percent virtualization, they are realizing the additional benefits that our solutions deliver, including increased flexibility and agility.”

VMware vSphere 4 extends the previous generation VMware platform – VMware Infrastructure 3 – along three dimensions: it delivers the efficiency and performance required to run business critical applications in large scale environments, it provides uncompromised control over application security and service levels, and it preserves customer choice of hardware, OS, application architecture and on-premise vs. off-premise application hosting.

vshpere

VMware vSphere 4 enables transformative capital and operational expenditure cost savings over and above what was previously achievable, including 30 percent increase in consolidation ratios, 50 percent storage savings, and 20 percent additional power savings. With VMware vSphere 4, even the most resource intensive business critical applications will benefit from the built-in service level assurance capabilities for availability, security and scalability.

Customers are already harnessing VMware vSphere 4 to bring the benefits of cloud computing to their data centers, creating a practical approach to their own private clouds – cloud computing infrastructures that span internal IT with external cloud service providers.

“VMware vSphere 4 is the core of our cloud computing initiative because it gives us the cost savings and scalability benefits of cloud computing, with the choice to deploy any application or OS without getting locked into any particular architecture,” said Christopher Rence, CIO, FICO.
